THE HISTORY OF DINNISSEN

Over 75 years back in time

In 1948, the two gentlemen Houben and Dinnissen - originally a blacksmith in Sevenum and a technician at a mill manufacturer - started a company in mill manufacturing. It didn't take them long to come up with a name; it had to be Houben & Dinnissen, located on the Maasbreeseweg in Sevenum. That company, founded in 1948 by two people, has grown over the past 75 years into a world player in the process technology of powders, grains, and granules, with approximately 250 employees.

How it started

Hammer mill systems were the foundation with which Houben and Dinnissen conquered the milling world. This was followed by mixers, transport, and silo manufacturing. A few years after its founding, the company moved to the location where we are still located today: the Horsterweg in Sevenum, on the Berghem industrial estate. At the same time, Dinnissen focused on machinery for processing animal feed. Houben and Dinnissen both decided to follow their own paths and the company continued under the name Machinefabriek Dinnissen, commonly known as Dinnissen.

More than decent and reliable

In the 1970s, Mr. Dinnissen handed over ownership to his son-in-law Mathieu Maes and his son Lambert Dinnissen. Where Houben and Dinnissen had built a reputation as decent and reliable machine builders, Maes and Dinnissen further strengthened and expanded this reputation. As Maes pointed out with Dinnissen's fortieth anniversary, "Machinefabriek Dinnissen has extended its reputation of solidity and reliability, with flexibility, inventiveness and, above all, good service."

Changing the guard and broadening the market

In 1996 Lambert Dinnissen retired and from 1996 to 2002 Mathieu Maes led Dinnissen on his own. Then, the company was handed over to two employees. Henk Kuijpers and Henri Michiels had been working in the company for years and did a management buyout to become joint owners of the organization. At that time, Dinnissen was already expanding from the compound feed industry to all industries involved in processing solids.

Once a family business, always a family business

Even though Dinnissen was no longer owned by the Dinnissen family, it still maintained the culture of a family business. With committed employees who stayed and continue to work for Dinnissen for many years. In 2005 Frans Bakker joined the organization and in 2008 Wouter Kuijpers joined the Dinnissen family. Major steps were made in the field of 3D drawing and further digitalization.

Still developing

In 2015, Henri Michiels resigned as owner, and Henk Kuijpers, Frans Bakker, and Wouter Kuijpers took on the management as a trinity. A responsibility they continue to perform to this day. Dinnissen keeps challenging itself to develop. That development takes place regarding the machines, processes, and integration. Within the company, on the contrary, there are very many constant factors: employees who have been in service for more than twenty, thirty, or even forty years. A great achievement, of which we are super proud.

Operational director Wouter Kuijpers explains, "Dinnissen gives people the opportunity to work, each at their own level, as part of projects being built all over the world. We have grown considerably in recent years. By this, I am not necessarily referring to the size of Dinnissen, but particularly to our growth in terms of aspects such as automation, optimization of engineering processes, and the link to production. We build streamlined machines and are streamlined ourselves."

Marcel Bouwmans, who is responsible for the financial part of the Dinnissen Group, is also pleased with the current position of Dinnissen: "Dinnissen is one of the finest companies in the region. You can feel the connection with the people who work here and with the company. This is reflected in long-term employment relationships. Several 40-year anniversaries, for example, have already been celebrated. In the past 18 years that I have been working at Dinnissen, we have made progress in several directions. Our workforce has almost doubled in that period. Currently, outside the Netherlands, Dinnissen is also established in Germany and Indonesia and we are establishing an entity in New Zealand."

Look to the future

Sustainable progress

All choices made at Dinnissen are focused on building the company for the long term. We invest in things we think are important. To us, sustainability also means that we want to make a difference for our environment. For example, the new facility was built energy-neutral, with a welding fume extraction system that acts directly as a heat recovery system. We are developing ways to work smarter every day.

In the short term, the focus is on the construction of the new D-innocenter. We are investing in the further expansion and growth of Dinnissen. There is still plenty to do, in fact, there is still a lot to do. In this rapidly changing world, Dinnissen has been a constant factor for over 75 years, which is constantly developing itself. We will continue to do exactly the same in the future.

We are proud that these companies rely on Dinnissen
