Has pneumatic transport been around for a long time?

The first large-scale application of pneumatic conveying was the vacuum conveying of grain at the end of the 19th century. By the mid-1920s, the transport of grain under negative and positive pressure was commonplace. Since that time, the practice of pneumatic conveying has grown tremendously and extended to a wide variety of solids.
