Customer Story: Emsland Group

Emsland Group discovers the diversity of Dinnissen

How did Emsland Group come to know Dinnissen? They received a centrifugal sifter through a supplier, without ever having heard of Dinnissen. When this sifter was working properly, Emsland Group was curious about the machine builder behind it. Through the machine number, they found out the name of Dinnissen. Today, Emsland Group has several machines from Dinnissen in use: from a Big Bag Emptying Station to a Feeder Valve, and from a Screw Conveyor to a Centrifugal Sifter, and more. These machines are at the Kyritz location, a factory fully equipped to process potatoes into high-quality potato starch.

Emsland Group has been a leading player in the starch industry for more than 90 years. This international organization works in more than 100 countries, but has its origins in Germany. Emsland Group's motto? Using nature to create. They grow their potatoes as close as possible to the processing locations. In cooperation with research institutions and suppliers, they work on sustainable agricultural practices that enable an environmentally friendly production process. Starch has been produced at the Kyritz location since 1873. In 1991, the Emsland Group took over the factory. From then on, in addition to starch, other valuable components of the potato are extracted and processed. Altogether, this factory processes between 230,000 and 250,000 tons of potatoes per year.

"The processing speed fulfills our requirements. Also for the employees, Dinnissen's sifter is an improvement over previous installations."

Getting to know Dinnissen

Mr. Fiedler and Mr. Symossek work in Kyritz as department head of refining and as process technologist. They talk about their experiences with Dinnissen and the purchase process of their second sifter: "In 2019, we traveled to Dinnissen. We already had a centrifugal sifter at the end of our production line, as a final check before the modified starch left the line. In addition, we wanted a second sifter for the beginning of the line. This sifter filters the starch immediately after emptying the Big Bags, so that no materials other than the starch enter the production process."

Excitedly, Fiedler and Symossek talk about their visit to Dinnissen: "We were given the opportunity to test the sifter at the D-Innocenter; Dinnissen's test center. In addition, we got the chance to take a look at the factory hall. We were welcomed nicely and were given a tour of the entire company. While being shown around, we discovered the extensive range of Dinnissen's products. They supply so much more than just sifters. We then saw the possibilities that this presented for us."

10 tons of potato starch per hour

The sifter purchased by Emsland Group for the Kyritz location is a CZ6 Centrifugal Sifter with a sieving surface of 2.5 square meters; the largest sieving surface available on the market. This machine processes up to 10 tons per hour, with a mesh opening of 1 mm (1000 µm). Fiedler and Symossek state: "The processing speed fulfills our requirements. Also for the employees, Dinnissen's sifter is an improvement over previous installations. Checking the machine, several times a day, is very straightforward because the sieve basket is easily accessible and can be quickly cleaned. This is not only a time advantage, but also an ergonomic one."

"We had a contact who understood what we needed and Dinnissen assisted us well from the beginning to the end of the project. From preparation and delivery to installation, start-up, and project management."

Continue to grow together

When asked what went less well and could be better, Fiedler and Symossek replied: "We can't really think of a negative example. We had a contact who understood what we needed and Dinnissen assisted us well from the beginning to the end of the project. From preparation and delivery to installation, start-up, and project management. Dinnissen is also there when action needs to be taken quickly. We had a leak and during that weekend an employee of Dinnissen immediately came our way to fix it."

The future of Emsland Group looks bright, according to Fiedler and Symossek: "We continue to develop the most sustainable methods possible in potato and starch processing. We have the drive to keep improving and optimizing. Whenever there are machines that can aid this process, we turn to Dinnissen. It's nice to keep improving together."
