Smart Industry article 1/6: It's through our smart designs that we make a difference
Smart Industry – a specialist magazine on technology and innovation in the smart manufacturing industry – made a special about Dinnissen Process Technology. In the coming weeks we will share an article every week in which our colleagues talk about a variety of topics: our philosophy, way of working, culture of innovation, projects, and solutions.
In this first article directors Henk Kuijpers, Frans Bakker, and Wouter Kuijpers explain where they believe Dinnissen's strength lies. Read the article below.
Every day we hold a product in our hands that was manufactured with the help of Dinnissen systems: from chocolate sprinkles to baby formula, from dog food to potato starch. The innovative company from Sevenum has been around for seventy years and is still going strong. In fact, the expansion of the factory will be completed later this year, with an emphasis on customization and innovation.
Dinnissen specializes in processing solids in large quantities. With customers in the dairy, food, chemical, pet food and feed sectors, Dinnissen develops, produces and tests virtually every product in-house. The various systems are then installed on site at customers’ production plants all over the world. When looking at the top ten companies in all segments - the leaders in the dairy, food, chemicals, pet food and feed industries - they all use Dinnissen technology. What is the main strength of the company? Commercial technical director Frans Bakker: “We have a customer-specific and customized approach. It's through our smart designs that we make a difference.”
Customization
It is anchored deeply in the company's DNA that products are manufactured in-house. “We want to continuously develop and be innovative,” says Chief Operating Officer Wouter Kuijpers. “Where many other companies mainly focus on assembly, we still manufacture almost everything in-house. This allows us to deliver customized products, but it also significantly speeds up our time to market.”
The approach at Dinnissen is based on the concept of continuity: “Everything we do is aimed at building the company for the long term,” says Chief Executive Officer Henk Kuijpers. “This means that our work focuses on controlled growth with people who are dear to us. It's not surprising that so many of our employees have been with us for decades, we can really count on them.”
Frans Bakker adds: “We also have long-standing relationships with a lot of our customers and suppliers. When working on projects, the continuity of the relationship is always our main priority. It feels really good when a customer comes back to us for a new project after using one of our installations for years to their satisfaction.”
Special milestone
A special milestone in the company's seventy-year history is the completion of the new building complex this summer. Henk Kuijpers: “We have been at this location since 1964 and it is clear that we have outgrown its capacity for some time. When we were given the chance in 2017 to purchase the property from our neighbour behind us, it was the perfect moment to redevelop our premises according to our ambitions. In the new, state-of-the-art facility, semi-finished products will be produced and welded in stainless steel. Once the new building opens, we'll be even better equipped to meet the highest quality standards demanded by our end customers. We are also taking a major step forward in terms of automation. And there is still potential for further expansion in the future. Furthermore, we will keep on modernizing the original section of the factory.”
Dinnissen productivity platform
Besides holding ISO 9001 and 14001 certifications, Dinnissen is also ISO 27000 certified. This is unique for a machine builder. This ISO quality mark relates to information security and focuses on the availability, integrity and confidentiality of data. “Our customers benefit from our focus on continuity. It's important to them that they can rely on our information security. That is why we have set the bar high for ourselves, as well as for our customers. One of the things Dinnissen has developed to achieve this is the Dinnissen productivity platform, which allows us to establish a full secure connection with the customer's network. This enables us to provide outstanding service, plus it gives our customers the ability to gain insight into processes within their production. If necessary, they can also monitor the production process on screens. This is all recorded so that the customer can see exactly who has logged in at what time. As you can see, we're very transparent in the way we work.”
Energy neutral
Sustainability is not merely a slogan at Dinnissen; the new building, for example, was built to be fully energy-neutral. The state-of-the-art welding fume extraction system, for example, is - very ingeniously - also a heat extraction system. Wouter Kuijpers: “We also want to make a difference to our environment with our products. For example, we developed a range machines and process systems that ensure that there is less downtime and enable fast product changes or more efficient milling with less energy consumption. Every day we focus on developing smarter working methods. Naturally, we always strive to find the best solution for our customer, but if this coincides with maximizing energy efficiency, it satisfies us all the more.”
